Julie Sumwalt is the Braille Specialist at the Wisconsin Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired (WCBVI). She became certified by the National Library Service as a literary braille transcriber in 2003. Further certifications obtained were Braille Formats 1997 in 2008, Nemeth (math and science) in 2009, Braille Formats 2011 in 2013, and the Letter of Proficiency in Unified English Braille (UEB) in 2015. She is currently testing the waters of Braille Music.
Julie holds a Bachelor’s degree in Exceptional Education with an emphasis in Sign Language Interpreting, her other career. Julie enjoys talking about braille and sign language and setting the record straight about which is which.
In between, Julie likes to read, knit, solve jigsaw puzzles, and spend time with her cat.
