Family Events

Resource events available to families of students who are blind or visually impaired include Family Connections and Life After High School.  These events are coordinated by our Transition Specialist/Parent Liaison, Dave Ballmann and our Professional Development Coordinator/Parent Liaison, Dave Hyde.  Dave Ballmann provides support for families of students aged 14-21 and Dave Hyde provides support for families of students aged 0-13.

Family Connections

Our purpose is to share strategies allowing students who are blind or visually impaired to successfully navigate their daily lives at home, school and in the community.  Some of the aspects of the program include:

  • An opportunity for families with children who are blind or visually impaired to network and share experiences
  • A place to receive information specific to your child who is blind or visually impaired
  • A chance to learn about the skills used to live independently
  • A safe zone to ask the difficult questions
  • An opportunity to meet members of the Wisconsin Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired Outreach Team
  • A chance to learn about resources such as the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR), county Aging and Disability Resource Centers (ADRC’s) college disability resource services, etc.

Life After High School

Our purpose is to help students and families create goals to aid the student who is blind or visually impaired for life after graduating from high school. Some of the aspects of the program include:

  • A chance to learn about the skills needed to live independently
  • A safe zone to ask difficult questions about the future
  • An opportunity for families with children who are blind or visually impaired to network and share experiences
  • A place to receive information specific to their child who is blind or visually impaired
  • An opportunity to meet members of the Wisconsin Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired Outreach Team
