The first phase of the UEB implementation plan for Wisconsin has been completed. As of September 2015, students in grades K-2 who read braille are receiving all materials ordered through WCBVI in UEB. Older students who are new learners of braille are also receiving all academic materials through WCBVI in UEB. All other students are receiving newly transcribed materials in UEB, but if materials are already available then WCBVI orders them as they are, in the previous code, which is English Braille American Edition (EBAE).
The official implementation date set by Braille Authority of North America (BANA) for the United States wasis January 4, 2016, in honor of Louis Braille’s birthday.
